City Mayor Ignacio W. Zubiri launched first batch of Community-based rehabilitation program to at least 300 drug surrenderers from Poblacion Barangays One to 11.

The City Government of Malaybalay through the initiative of Mayor Zubiri embarked on a unique approach tagged as the first in Region 10 or even in Mindanao to conduct a major local intervention dubbed Community Based Non-Confinement Rehabilitation program.

Under his leadership, Mayor Zubiri is keen and has high hopes with this program stressing it is very much needed for the transformation and recovery of our drug dependents to have a chance for a new life and be a productive citizens in the society.

Mayor Zubiri thanked the collaborative efforts of all concerned agencies and non-government organizations for answering the call of this noble cause which will help, not just the drug dependents, but their families as well to recover from the menacing effects of illegal drugs.

The launching program held at Barangay 9 Covered Court on December 7, 2016 aims to assess the level of drug dependency of our local drug surrenderers. They will then undergo a three-week drug rehabilitation program in partnership with the private rehabilitation center from Cagayan de Oro City.

City Local Government Operations Officer Maria Maida Daniot-Apostol explained to them the framework of the intervention program through a well-structured stages and holistic approach.

Faith-based organizations of the City will also be an active partner in their involvement in moral recovery and spiritual development of the individuals in the context of the progressive stages in the framework.

As of this date, at least 3,000 drug personalities have already surrendered to the authorities since its launching of “Operation Double Barrel” last July under President Duterte’s campaign against illegal drugs.

The program covers all surrenderers of the 46 barangays of the City.  -AdminISDrao
