Barangay Profile
In the year 1950, the place was already half inhabited and the majority of the settlers were natives of the land. There were only a few who came from neighboring provinces who cultivated the land for agricultural purposes. This year was very significant for the first settlers because that was the first fiesta that happened in the place and it was also become a regular barangay under the City of Malaybalay through the leadership of late Antonio Pacquiao and appointed Teniente del Barrio. Since the population of barangay was rapidly increasing, trees and animals especially wild deer and pigs gradually vanished. Inhabitants planted rice and corn during the planting season instead of trees. Many assumed that the cause of the gradual loss of animals was hunters who illegally haunted it and roughly pushed it to another place.
During the first local election, the late Antonio Pacquiao was defeated by the late Pelagio Malatamban, the first barangay captain. Meanwhile, people continued their system of living. A new method of farm technology was introduced and adopted in the barangay. Pelagio Malatamban was beaten by Hon.Alberto Ravidas reined Cabangahan for 20 years during the Marcos regime.
In the last July 2002 election, Ravidas was defeated by the late Gerardo Pacquaio Sr. during his time, Cabangahan was fully inhabited and the population increased. Some owners of corn lands converted them into sugarcane plantations. National Irrigation association also reaches Cabangahan thus the area became irrigated. Part of the barangay area also became rice fields.
The late Hon. Gerardo Pacquaio Sr. was the first re-elected Punong barangay of Cabangahan. In his second term, he died of lung cancer. First Kagawad Hon. Basiledes F. Cahucom succeeded as an appointed Punong Barangay. During his time, he raised political conflict in the barangay where his adversary filed a petition for a recall against the present administration, but the petition was not granted by the Comelec because the petition was filed after the proclamation of the winner. He served for three consecutive terms as Punong Barangay until October CY 2010 and precedes serving as 1st elected Barangay Kagawad up to this present.
After October CY 2010 Barangay election, the new administration has been role over under the leadership of the newly elected Punong Barangay Hon. Edwin L. Rara Sr. for two (2) consecutive terms from the year 2010 until this present. For the past four (4) years of his leadership projects and activities were implemented where it is a big challenge to the constituents of Barangay Cabangahan to get involved in all events & projects as well. The best thing that happened in his administration is there was no political conflict that ruins or destroys his intimate goals and objectives for the good of the people. From peace and order situation, health & sanitation, agriculture, infrastructure, livelihood, sportsmanship, healthy life morally and spiritually towards the community for the good of the people by implementing programs & projects with love, hope & positive views and also with the support of the NGO`S, stakeholders, City and national government as well

Historical Background
Long before barangay cabangahan was a thick green forest where wild deer and pigs dwelt. It was a sitio under barangay Bugcaon, Municipality of Lantapan. The work of the people during that time and even in the present were cutting down trees or making them “Kaigin”. They have a very vast plain surface of land suited for agricultural production.
The people from barangay Bugcaon went fishing in Sawaga River and to the watery place of Barangay Simaya passing through Cabangahan Creek. At the side of the creek, there they found grown trees and they called it “Banga” which were also found and very abundant in the plain area of the national highway. That was where Cabangahan got its name, derived from the word “Banga”. The first settlers called this place Cabangahan, to remind them of the trees they chewed for pleasure.
In the year 1950, the place was already half inhabited and the majority of the settler were natives of the land. There were only a few who came from the neighboring provinces who cultivated the land for agricultural purposes. That year was very significant for the last settlers because that was the first fiesta that happened in the place and it was also because a regular barangay under the jurisdiction of the City of Malaybalay through the leadership of the late Antonio Pacquao and appointed Teniente Del Barrio. During the first local election, the late Antonio Pacquiao was defeated by the late Pelagio Malatamban, the first Barangay Captain. Meanwhile, people continued their system of living. A new method of farming technology was introduced and adopted in the barangay. In the next election, Pelagio Malatamban was defeated by Hon. Alberto Ravidas reigned Cabangahan for 20 years during Marcos Regime.
In the last July 2002 election, Ravidas was defeated by the late Gerardo Pacquiao Sr.During his time, Cabangahan was fully settled and the population increased. Some owners of con lands converted it into a sugarcane plantation. National Irrigation Association also reaches Cabangan thus the areas became irrigated, and part of the barangay area became rice fields.
The late Gerardo Pacquiao, Sr. was the first re-elected Punong Barangay of Cabangahan. In his second term, he died of lung cancer. First Kagawad Basiledes F. Cahucom succeeded as an appointed Punong Barangay. During his time, a political conflict happened in the barangay wherein his adversary filed a petition for a recall against him, but the petition was not granted by the Comelec because it was filed after winning has been legally proclaimed. He served for three consecutive terms as Punong Barangay until the year 2010.
After the October 2010 barangay election, the new administration has been role over under the leadership of the newly elected Punong Barangay Hon. Edwin L. Rara together with the barangay officials duly elected in October 2010 election. He served the barangay from 2010-2018.
