City Health Office (CHO) – Newborn Screening Program, alongside midwives and nurses, hosted a Birth Defect Orientation at The Gardens in Malaybalay City on March 26, 2024.

Dr. Conchita G. Abarquez, unit head of Newborn Screening Center – Mindanao, Aster Lynn Sur, Project Development Officer IV from the Center for Human Genetics Services-Mindanao, and Ms. Michelle L. Timones, Disability Affairs Officer IV from the City Mayor’s Office, served as resource speakers for the one-day activity.

The primary objective of the orientation was to enlighten attendees about factors predisposing to birth defects, common defects, and strategies for reduction and prevention through Preconception Health & LINC strategy (Lifestyle, Infection, Nutrition, Contraception). The CHO leads efforts in the promotion, prevention, surveillance, and treatment of birth defects.
