“Give blood, save a life!” – was the major motivation of the Blood Letting Activity and Free Medical Check Up held last September 20, 2017 at the Ground Floor, New City Hall, Malaybalay City.
There were 32 employees nobly donated blood. This signified a large increase of blood donors compared to previous bloodletting conducted last year.
City government employees also availed the free medical check-up administered by the City Health Office to ensure that workers in the frontline were in tiptop shape.
The activity was made possible through the initiative of the City Human Resource and Management Office in commemoration of the 117th Philippine Civil Service Anniversary.
Employee-blood donors were assisted by CHRMO staff handing them with snacks after they donated blood.
City Mayor Ignacio W. Zubiri has been very active in the blood donation activities of the City. In fact, he is a recipient of the coveted National Sandugo Awards for the fifth time as Hall of Famer. This is the highest award given to any outstanding local chief executive in its full implementation of the National Voluntary Blood Services program.
According to Philippine Red Cross, around 2500-3000 blood units are needed to meet the daily demands of the Filipinos, thus donating blood spells between life and death to patients who need it.
Among the facts of blood donation is that one pint (450mL) of blood can save up to three lives and someone needs blood every two seconds.
Department of Health is setting an annual quota of one million blood units comprised of one per cent of the total population of the Philippines.
