The City Agriculture Office (CAgO) concluded the 16-week program of Farmers’ Field School (FFS) on vegetable production conducted from August 14, 2019 up to January 30, 2020.
A total of 45 farmer-graduates completed the course held in a ceremony on February 4, 2020 at Sitio Candi-isan, Can-ayan, Malaybalay City with an all-female group and two senior citizens.
The techno demo covered a total area of 600 square meters at Candi-isan Integrated Elementary School which served as their farmer cooperator for the whole training. Participants planted four kinds of vegetable which includes eggplant, ampalaya, squash and pole sitao.
The FFS is a regular program which trains farmers about new farming methods and agricultural techniques through lectures, discussions, open forum, group dynamics and hands-on farm demonstrations.
Further, this priority program of the City Agriculture is expected to enhance farmers’ capacity such that they can increase their production. Farmers, especially women of the rural communities have gained good understanding on vegetable production.
Officer-in-charge, Vice Mayor Jay Warren R. Pabillaran challenged the graduates to apply everything what they have learned to make the program sustainable and find more market specially that developments and easy access in their barangay such as road constructions are now visible.
The program became successful though the initiative of City Agriculture Office, HVCC Team headed by Mr. Emegen L. Disalan.
Graduation ceremony was graced by the presence of City Councilor Cromwell Kiril Dinlayan, Liga ng mga Barangay President, Bonifacio Valiente, City Agriculture officer-in-charge, Engr. Naomie H. Delos Reyes, Sitio Leaders, Candi-isan School Heads and City Agriculture Office personnel.
