In support to the continued solid waste management activities of the City Government, three (3) additional garbage compactors were recently blessed and declared ready for operations. The units were turned over to the City environment and natural resources office (CENRO) and was received by the head, Maria Anita L. Fernandez. The blessing took place on August 24, 2022 which was officiated by Rev. Msgr. Cirilo S. Sajelan.

The new garbage compactors were acquired through the Liga nga mga Barangay Poblacion District. Originally, these compactors were supposed to be used by the Poblacion Barangays for the collection of their respective biodegradable solid wastes. However, the Poblacion Barangays through Resolution No. 09-2022 agreed for the turn-over of the operation and management of the compactors to the City ENRO. The generosity will, in turn, enhance the garbage collection services of the City ENRO, particularly for the residual solid wastes.

In addition, the decision came out during the board meeting of the Poblacion Barangays for practical reasons as several small barangays have narrow streets and alleys that may cause traffic complications during garbage collections. It was learned that the City Government will purchase new garbage trucks for these smaller barangays, and these units will best fit their needs and situations.

In behalf of the office, Fernandez expressed gratitude to Mayor Jay Warren R. Pabillaran for providing additional garbage trucks, as well as to Liga President Bonifacio G. Valiente for the support, and for facilitating the transfer of the management and operation of the garbage compactors.
