On June 14, blood donation organizations and donors are recognized globally as part of World Blood Donor Day. To mark the day, the City Government of Malaybalay through the City Health Office (CHO) and City Mayor’s Office (CMO) organized a voluntary bloodletting activity at the New People’s Hall, where the zealous city employees can get their blood types checked and get their donor card after donating blood.

The emphasis of this year’s theme, “Donating blood is an act of solidarity. Join the effort and save lives,” is the urgent need for more donors in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. This campaign aims to raise awareness of the vital role that volunteer blood donations play in preserving life and fostering community solidarity.

The participants were welcomed by Atty. Anna Marie Bergado, who also thanked the donors for their dedication to saving lives through blood donation in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The activity was also attended by City Health Officer Dr. Dennis Sangalang. In his remarks, he expressed his gratitude and warm felicitation to all blood donors, blood donor organizations, and motivators for their concerted efforts that helped save many patients’ lives.

The CHO will continue its bloodletting campaign in different barangays over the following days, and anyone who is interested in giving blood and doing their part for the society is welcome to participate. Thus, encouraging everyone in Malaybalay to donate blood as an ‘act of solidarity.’
