The City Government of Malaybalay received agricultural inputs amounting to Php 75.860 million in support to increase farmers’ productivity and food security.

The Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office 10 (DA-RFO 10) Regional Executive Director, Carlene C. Collado handed the certificate of turnover to Roberto T. Flores, Executive Assistant V in behalf of City Mayor Florencio T. Flores, Jr. on November 3, 2021 at the City Agriculture Office Compound, Malaybalay City.

The total amount comprises of 9,250 bags of Hybrid Rice Seeds, 600 bags Certified Inbred Rice Seeds and 28,950 bags Inorganic Fertilizers (46-0-0).

For every hectare, a rice farmer can receive 1 bag of certified seeds and 3 bags of fertilizer for hybrid and 2 bags for inbred.

Malaybalay City has rice physical area of 4,973.7 hectares with 2,557 rice farmers which will benefit the program.

As of October, the city has an average yield of rice at 5.9 metric tons (MT). With this agricultural inputs and various programs and projects to be implemented for rice on wet and dry cropping seasons, we are expecting for the continuing increase of our yield.

Dir. Collado in his message reminded and asked the beneficiaries of the said rice seeds and fertilizers to not sell the inputs so that they can avail of a high yielding harvest especially that currently, the agricultural inputs are increasing its prices in the market.

Mr. Flores, extended his message in behalf of the City Mayor and lauded the efforts of the Department of Agriculture through the City Agriculture Office in providing assistance and hearing the concerns of our local farmers.

The ceremonial turnover was also graced by the presence of Chona H. Nacalaban, DA-RFO 10 Rice Program Focal Person, Dr. Janet D. Lopez, Provincial Operations Center Chief for Bukidnon, City Agriculturist Remedios R. Sarzuelo together with the officers of Malaybalay City Federation of Irrigator’s Association (MCFIA) and City Agricultural and Fishery Council (CAFC).
