In support of the initiative of Barangay Kulaman as they conducted an “Anti-Drug Symposium”, the City Government of Malaybalay through the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), City Health Office (CHO) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) joined the event as resource speakers on December 11, 2020, at the Multi-Purpose Hall, Barangay Kulaman Malaybalay City.

At least 40 participants attended the symposium that started at 9:00 in the morning and ended at noon, while observing strict health protocol during the gathering.

DILG representative, Jonah Ronolo, elaborately discussed the role of the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) in Drug Prevention. Ronolo emphasized that we should be role models and inspire others to stay away from illegal drugs.

Meanwhile, PNP PCMSgt. Alexander Calma, highlighted the salient features of RA 9165 also known as the “Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002”, repealing RA 6425.

On the other hand, CHO representative, Grace Lingcasan, talked about the ill effects of drugs and the ordinance on tobacco control.

The activity aims to promote cooperation, health, and social well-being among individuals, families, and communities and reduce the harmful consequences of drug abuse for an individual and the society at large.
