The City Government of Malaybalay ranked Kalasungay and Kulaman first place in their respective categories in the search for 2017 “Galing Barangay” otherwise known as GABAY during the awarding held in celebration of “141st Aldaw Ta Malaybalay” last June 16, 2018.

Kalasungay garnered a total points score of 97.14 in category A with an Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA) of P-2M and above, while Kulaman got 96.63 in category B with an IRA below P-2M.

Punong Barangay Rodrigo O. Niere, Kalasungay and Punong Barangay Jenny S. Subang, Kulaman along with their officials received a trophy with a corresponding cash prize of P 100,000.00 each.

The two awardees also bagged special awards which Kalasungay hailed as the most functional Barangay Peace and Order Council (BPOC), while Kulaman recognized as the most functional Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (BDRRMC) and Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council (BADAC).

Under the leadership of City Mayor Ignacio W. Zubiri, all 46 barangays were evaluated through this mechanism in order to promote best practices and strengthen good governance at the barangay level.

The yearly evaluation also revisits the level of performance and competence of our barangays in the delivery of basic services through appropriate program intervention in the area of administration, financial management, health, education, social services and agriculture.

Other awardees who made it to top five were: category A, Linabo – 2nd Place; Barangay 7 – 3rd Place; Managok and Barangay 10 – Finalists. For Category B, Barangay 8 – 2nd Place; Busdi – 3rd Place; Barangay 4 and Barangay 2 – Finalists. Each received a cash incentive of P 75,000 for 2nd place, P 50,000 for third and P 10,000 for finalist.

Special awards were also awarded to Barangay 7 for the most functional Barangay Council for the Protection of Children (BCPC) and Barangay 8 for the most functional Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC).
