The Malaybalay City Breast Cancer Warriors (MCBCW) held their Induction of Officers and General Assembly at the Farmers Training Center of the City Agriculture Office on October 1, 2024. The event, aims to foster support for individuals affected by breast cancer, gathered advocates, medical professionals, and local government officials to enhance the community’s response to breast cancer.
Dr. Jose Rhoel C. De Leon, a specialist in surgical oncology and breast surgery, served as the guest speaker. He emphasized the importance of both medical treatment and emotional support for breast cancer patients. Dr. Vincent C. Raguro (DMO V) also shared insights into the local health sector’s role in cancer prevention.
The ceremony was graced by Hon. Jay Warren R. Pabillaran, Malaybalay City Mayor, and Hon. Kathleen Cecille C. Pagaling, the SP Committee chairperson on Health. Both officials reiterated their commitment to supporting health initiatives in the city, especially those addressing cancer prevention and treatment.
The MCBCW Adviser, Dr. Melirose S. Deticio, who also serves as the City Health Officer I, highlighted the importance of creating a strong support network for breast cancer patients. The event included a thanksgiving mass, a “getting to know each other” session, and lectures focused on cancer awareness and support.
Dr. Jude Rey C. Pagaling, Assistant Non-Communicable Disease Medical Coordinator, along with Frances Charmaine A. Lazalita, RN, Cancer Prevention and Control Program Coordinator, and her team, including Kesie Joy S. Inatalio, RN, and Marlonne T. Yongco, RN, actively led the discussions. Their efforts aim to ensure that no one faces breast cancer alone by improving access to treatments and providing holistic care to patients.
The event underscored the MCBCW’s mission to develop smarter, kinder treatments for breast cancer, as well as to promote emotional wellbeing and mental health among those affected by the disease.
The MCBC Warriors expressed gratitude for the support from both the community and health sector, as they continue to advocate for stronger awareness and accessible healthcare for all.
