Under the marching order of President Duterte to clear all public roads from obstruction, the City Government of Malaybalay conducted road clearing operations to main thoroughfare and secondary roads resulting to the relocation of 108 illegal street vendors. Roads already cleared since October 1, 2019 were from Sumpong to Barangay Seven, and secondary roads situated at Poblacion Barangay 5.

Led by the Executive Assistant, Roberto T. Flores, the composite team includes representatives from the Department of Interior and Local Government, Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire and Protection, and the City Engineer’s Office. The civil society sector was represented by REACT.

According to the City Market Committee, relocation of illegal street vendors could reach around 140 to 150 after final validation.

The City Economic Enterprise Development and Management Office (CEEDMO) together with the City Anti-Illegal Vending Task Force (CAIVTF) facilitated the transfer of existing illegal vendors to the Public Market in Barangay 9. The new site provides each vendor with a 1 x 1.4 meter space to operate and sell their goods and/or products.

CEEDMO further explained that only the identified former illegal vendors from the cleared areas will be allowed to apply slots at the public market.
