In celebration to support and advocate women’s rights, the Sangguniang Panlungsod approved SP Resolution No. 2023-0261- requesting the employees of the City Government and the people of Malaybalay to wear something purple every Friday for the month of March 2023.

As cited in Proclamation No. 224 Series of 1988 declares that in every first week of March is a Women’s Week and March 8 is a Women’s Rights and International Peace Day.

Republic Act No. 6949 also declares that every March 8 is a Special Working Holiday to be known as National Women’s Day.

Every year the Women’s Day is celebrated on March 8 and purple is a choice of color for International Women’s Day which signifies justice and dignity and also to bring attention to women’s right and push for equality.

The 2023 National Women’s Day Celebration marks a juncture in the advancement of women’s right as it launches a new recurring theme from this year to 2028.

On February 28, 2023, during 32nd Regular Session of the 9th Sangguniang Panlungsod, the said resolution sponsored by Hon. City Councilor Kathleen Cecille C. Pagaling and duly seconded – requesting the employees of the City Government and people of Malaybalay to wear something purple every Friday for the month of March 2023. This is to show support and join the call to advance women’s rights and gender equality.
