Barangay Profile

Barangay Imbayao is located on the western part of the City of Malaybalay, it is bounded in the northern part of Barangay Capitan Anghel, in the southern part by  barangay Mapayag, in the western part of Mt. Apulang, and in the east by the barangay Kalasungay and Barangay Casisang. The total land area is 6,042 hectares with about 66% classified as alienable and disposable (4,000 hectares). The rest are classified as forestall areas covered by the protected park.

With an average elevation of about 1200 meters AMSL, the Barangay has a relatively cool temperature. The slope map of the city and 18%-35% slope classification of the entire barangay which means that it is characterized by hilly terrain. The soil type is predominantly clay loam which is suitable to any agricultural crops.

Mission

We envision Barangay Imbayao as tourist Destination of Malaybalay City with united, well-educated, healthy, and God fearing people living in a diversified farming and environment friendly economy and called as a food basket Barangay. Embraces modern Information Technology, Ecology balanced, peaceful, drug-free and protected environment under a flexible and honest leadership sustaining good governance.

Vision

Barangay Imbayao envisioned promoting a dynamic leadership working as a team which is concerned with ecological balance, economical development and well-being of its constituents.

Historical Background

Sometime in 1954, inhabitants of Malaybalay have come across and settled in a place overlooking the Poblacion, they named the said place “Baclayon” which means can be reached through hiking.

In the same year, Mr. Victor Sulatan, then a board member of the Province of Bukidnon visited Baclayon, upon the request of the settlers, he facilitated the creation of Baclayon into a “barrio”

On November 1955, Baclayon was officially inaugurated as a Barrio, Eventually Mr. Sulatan changed the name Baclayon into “Imbayao”, which is a local term for highly elevated.
