The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) posthumously awarded Mrs. Fortunata Borres of Barangay Indalasa being a recipient of “centenarian gift” worth Php 100,000.00. Her daughter, Florcepida Orayan received the award on her behalf on November 7, 2019.

The family of the 107-year old centenarian who passed away four months before the awarding expressed their gratitude to the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) for helping them comply all the needed documents submitted to DWSD.

Awarding of centenarian will undergo stringent screening process from DSWD field personnel through home visits and assessment to further validate the legitimacy of the claim before it be can be budgeted by the national government.

Aside from the monetary award, DSWD gave a token for the family which was handed during ceremony held at the CWSDO. It consists a letter of felicitation from the President of the Philippines in recognition of this rare feat.

Senior citizens who live past a century are entitled to receive the award by virtue of Republic Act 10868 also known as “Centenarian Act of 2016.” The law pays tribute to all Filipinos who reach 100 years old, whether living in the Philippines or abroad in recognition of their longevity.
