The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) sets a tentative schedule to spearhead a simultaneous tree planting activity on May 8, 2020. This after the City Government of Malaybalay was a recipient of 3,700 tree seedlings comprised of golden trumpet (2,200), benguet pine tree (800) and mahogany (700) from the provincial government of Bukidnon.

Distribution of plantlets held at the Provincial Planning and Development Office on January 24, 2020 aims to ensure that the local government units will conduct tree planting and tree growing activities on areas that are prone to floods and landslides, identified as high risk by the Local Environment and Natural Resources Office and DENR.

The program is in part of the prevention and mitigation activities which disaster managers find it helpful according to their presented plans and programs in a meeting last January. CDRRMO emphasized that this is one of the measures to prevent the onslaught of future floods and landslides identified based on the hazards and risk maps from the Mines and Geosciences Bureau.

Further, the activity also encourages stakeholders to propagate golden trumpet trees to be planted along the national highways. These trees are recognizable that gained its popularity in the City during summer. The tree blooms in vibrant gold color that earned praise from motorists and tourists alike.
