Mayor Flores leads Covid-19 vax rollout for senior citizens

To lead by example and urge public confidence on Covid-19 vaccine, Mayor Florencio T. Flores, Jr. was the first to receive the jab during the launching of the second wave mass vaccination rollout of Covid-19 vaccine for senior citizens.

The second rollout set on May 3, 2021 was granted by the Department of Health (DOH) Region 10 after the City has achieved 95 percent inoculation of medical frontliners tagged as the first priority A1. This time, senior citizens being next in line priority were allocated an initial total of 1,000 sinovac shots of vaccine for the first week of May. This vulnerable sector will be administered by Malaybalay Covid-19 Vaccination Center team situated at the City Covered Court Brgy. 4, this City.

At least 200 recipients from barangay Casisang are expected to be vaccinated during the first day of the roll-out. Based on the earlier report of the City’s Covid-19 Vaccination Plan, senior citizens belong to the A2 priority group has an expected total population that could reach around 13,000.

City Health Officer, Dr. Dennis P. Sangalang explained that the senior citizens are the most vulnerable to the virus that is why they need to be prioritized. He said, “We want to prevent death and with the vaccine, it is 100% guaranteed that even though there is minimal chance they might still get infected, however it will not be severe anymore. Our vaccine is safe and effective.” He also encouraged everyone to support the government’s effort both medical and non-medical protocol as we strive to reduce mortality and achieve herd immunity of this deadly virus.

The event was supervised by DOH representative Dr. Vincent C. Raguro – DMO V PDOHO-Bukidnon, along with the assistance of CHO personnel, Dr. Melirose S. Deticio, Rica E. Raguro, R.N. and staff.
