Barangay Geographic Profile

Barangay Nine has a total land area of 625 hectares. Considered as the biggest Barangay in the poblacion, it is composed of Nine (9) Puroks. Barangay 6 bound it in the east, in the west by Barangay 7, in the north by Barangay 8 and in the south by Barangay Casisang. Barangay 9 is basically a commercial area where the Public Market, Integrated Bus Terminal and the other Government and private offices are located.

Mission

To implement effectively the plans and programs of the Barangay, giving consideration on the involvement and participation of spiritually empowered people. To deliver the basic services to all concern; intensify the Socio-Economic Programs for the upliftment of one’s living condition. Create and develop strategies/programs for social transformation and balance ecology, meant to achieve our common goals toward development and maximum productivity of our Barangay.

Vision

We envision Barangay Nine as the Commercial Trading Center of Malaybalay City Governed by God-fearing, honest and transparent leaders with people who are pro-active, law-abiding, peace-loving, spiritually empowered, services oriented, pro-environment, live balance lives, synergistic and with better quality of life in sustainable commercial, clean and green environment.

Historical Background

Barangay Nine was one of the 20 Barangays created during the Marcos Regime under the Declaration of Martial Law by virtue of Presidential Decree 86 and 86-A. Under the administration of the late Hon. Mayor timoteo C. Ocaya, the Municipal Council passed Resolutions Number 246-74 and 249-74 and Implementing ordinance N. 87-74 by reducing the number of Barangays from 20 to Eleven Barangays. The merging of some Barangays affected the political boundaries such that Barangay 16 became Barangay 9.

In 1990, hon. Rogelio M. Bedic was appointed as Punong Barangay, a year after Hon. Marciano Caalaman was appointed as Punong Barangay. The later, Hone. Alejandro Abregana occupied the post being appointed as Punong Barangay for a period of four years from 1982-1986. Thereafter, in 1986-1988, Hon. Celerina Litanon served as Punong Barangay by virtue of succession. In 1988 the first ever election was held for Punong Barangay, the late Bonifacio Chavez got the highest vote and become the Punong Barangay Elect until the year 1992. With the filing of his candidacy as Councilor of Malaybalay, Hon. Celerina Litanon was designated Officer-In-Charge of the Office of the Punong Barangay.

In May 1994, Barangay Election was held and Hon. Yolando L. Llubit was elected and served as the Punong Barangay until November 2007. In the middle of his term, Hon. Rodrigo B. Timones assumed the Office of the Punong Barangay in acting capacity by virtue of an order. With the issuance of a certification from the City Mayor, Hon. Rodrigo B. Timones Relinquished the post and Hon. Yolando L. Llubit again served as the Punong Barangay and assumed the post on November of 2007, thereby, serving as Barangay Nine’s Chief Executive until November of 2007.

Barangay Elected was conducted on October of 2007 and Hon. Provo B. Antipasado, Jr. was Elected as Punong Barangay and assumed the post on the last day of November 2007 thereby serving the Barangay 9 as Chief Executive up to November 2010.

Barangay election was conducted on October 2010 and Hon. Yolando L. Llubit was elected as the Punong Barangay and assumed the post on the first day of December 2010 thereby serving Barangay 9 as Chief Executive uo to November 2013.

Barangay Election was conducted on October 2013 and Hon. Rodrigo B. Timones was elected as the Punong Barangay and assumed the post on the first day of December 2013 thereby serving the Barangay 9 as Chief Executive up to this date.

October 1, 2014, the Barangay Nueve held its 1st Araw ng Barangay with the highlight of the Search for Miss Barangay Nueve, Which Heartily participated and represented by all the Purok, from 1 to 8.

December 2015 the City Government of Malaybalay had a Barangay Parol Making contest wherein we won 8th place.

January 17,2016, Barangay Nueve, 1st ever Sto. Niño Feast Day Celebration with a Sinulog Dancers during the Procession.

As part of the Tools of the Search for thte Cleanest and Greenest Barangay;

It was in the year 2016, we constructed the Land mark of Barangay Marker and Enhances Urban/Rural Space Greening in Rotonda Areas, Purok Entrances, and Façade of every building and establishment were planted with Ornamental plants and Create a new item, BESAO (Barangay Environment Sanitary Action Officer) to monitor the Implementation of Solid Waste Management in Barangay Nueve. Also Constracted Barangay 9 Women’s Federaation

There was no election on October 2016 so the incumbent administration under the leadership of Hon. Rodrigo B. Timones continued their service until a barangay election is made.

On the year 2017, in celebration of the 19th Charter’s Day, the City of Malaybalay initiates Festival of Festival of Which barangay 9 is one of the contingent and won 2nd Runner up of the street dancing with a theme: Sinulog, on the following yeas 2018 on 20th Charter’s Day once again Barangay 9 is one of the contingent on the Festival of Fantasy with a theme: Little Mermaid; and won 2nd Runner up on the Street Dancing.

It was in 2017 that the Barangay Nine was a recipient of Bottom Up Budgeting in the amount of Two Million pesos thus the Barangay Health Center and Barangay nutrition Center was renovated to implement the intended project on Comprehensive Health Program.

Barangay Election was conducted on May 14,2018 and Hon. Rodrigo B. Timones was re-elected as the Punong Barangay and continue his post thereby serving the Barangay 9 as Chief Executive up to this date.

On our continuous support to the Philippines Red Cross we receive Sandugo & Mapanghikayat Award, National Level.

Major project implemented CY 2018, Comprehensive Health – Rehabilitation of Barangay Health Center and Barangay Nutrition Center funded by the National – Bottoms up Budgeting thus Provincial Government of Bukidnon, the IP Tulugan and the Multi-Purpose Building at Purok 5 was also constructed funded by the Provincial Government of Bukidnon. The construction of Barangay 9 stage Phase 1 was also construction funded by the City Governement of Malaybalay.

In December 2018, the Purok 5 was split up and created a new Purok, called Purok 9, so there are 9 Purok exist in Barangay Nine.

Year 2019 on the 21st Charter’s Day of Malaybalay City Continued with they started another Festival of Fantasy 2 Barangay 9 is one of the contingent with the theme: Tangled and won 2nd Runner Up in Street Dancing and during the Culminating of the Charter’s Day all of the Barangay Officials experienced fabulous STAR OF THE NIGHT “ Barangay Night and |Awards Night”.
