The whole month of January is also known as ZERO WASTE MONTH as declared under Presidential Proclamation No. 760, dated May 5, 2014.

The celebration aims to guide people in changing their lifestyle and practices to emulate sustainable natural cycles where all discarded materials are designed to become resources for others to use.

It is also an advocacy campaign to promote the designing and managing products and processes to avoid and eliminate the volume and toxicity of waste products.

To highlight the advocacy campaign on proper solid waste management, the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (City ENRO) held a clean-up drive along the identified strategic areas of the Malaybalay City By-Pass Road from Barangay San Jose to Barangay Casisang.

Based on the monitoring, these areas are considered hot spots because of the open dumping and indiscriminate disposal of unsegregated wastes.

During the Clean-Up on January 28, 2022, an estimated of 700 kilos of wastes were collected. Most of the collected wastes are cellophanes, plastic bottles, food containers and plastic utensils which are believed to be coming from travellers/motorists who are passing by the by-pass road. The activity was participated by City ENRO personnel.
