- NATURE OF OFFICE
The City Agriculture Office of Malaybalay is one of the departments of the City Government of Malaybalay mandated to ensure food security to the populace through the provision of effective and efficient services and facilities for increased production and productivity of crops, inland fisheries, and agri-livestock by assisting crop protection and insurance, facilitate credit/loans, provide extension services, education and training thereby availing livelihood projects of farm machineries, equipment and agri-infrastructures, and facilities.
The City Agriculture Office of Malaybalay nature of work is to ensure the provision of basic services and facilities. The office building established in 2005 with the Farmers Training Center becomes a venue for meetings, trainings, and seminars for farmer-clienteles and organized farmer associations/growers, cooperatives, and organizations. Agriculturists designated were as Agricultural Extension Officers and were assigned by the team per commodity into Rice, Corn, HVCC, Organic, and Inland Fisheries Program. The Project Team will provide extension services, technical assistance, and education to increase agricultural production and productivity. The Agricultural Engineers of the Agricultural Engineering Section will provide basic agricultural engineering works such as an ocular and topographic survey for irrigation, farm machineries/equipment, agri-infrastructure, and facilities through the preparation of a program of works and detailed engineering designs. The Institutional Development Section will facilitate to organize and strengthen of rural-based organizations, farmer associations/growers, agri-cooperatives, and people’s organizations to capacitate them to undertake livelihood projects including financial literacy programs that aim to assist for product development and promote them into farmer-entrepreneurs (“Agri-prenuers”) producing quality, good agricultural/manufacturing practices (GAP/GMP) certified products marketed locally and internationally in the future.
The City Agriculture Office composed of competent, committed and God-centered personnel in collaboration with government and non-government agencies, will ensure food security of populace, and develop sustainable & diversified farmer-entrepreneurs, through efficient and effective good agricultural practices engaging climate change adaptive and sustainable agricultural land management measures thereby contributing to social and economic development of the city.

History
The Office is created in 1981 under the leadership of Mr. Romeo Pareño as the first Municipal Agricultural Officer of Malaybalay detailed and located before at the Provincial Agriculture Office of Bukidnon. In 1983, the municipal agriculture office was transferred at the Municipal Hall of Malaybalay. In 1985, Mr. Eriberto Bangis was the Municipal Agricultural Officer until 1990. In 1991, Republic Act No. 7160 known as The Local Government Code of the Philippines was also approved. It was then implemented in 1993 wherein the agricultural extension workers and some of the properties of the National Government Agencies (NGAs) all over the country were devolved to the Local Government Units (LGUs). One of the objectives of the devolution is to equip the manpower requirement to deliver the basic services promptly and appropriately to the clientele. In 1991, Mr. Andrew T. Bergado was the Municipal Agricultural Officer. He became also the 1st City Agriculturist since Malaybalay was created into a component City on February 11, 1998 by virtue of Republic Act 8490. In year 2009, the City Agriculture Office implemented its new organizational structure pursuant to City Ordinance 624 otherwise known as the reorganization of Malaybalay City.
