Barangay Profile
The Barangay is located about 72kms. South-east from the city proper. It is bounded on the north by Barangay Busdi, on the South by Barangay CAburacanan, on the west by Barangay St. Peter and on the east by Barangay Kibalabag.
Barangay Kulaman, would like to claim a total land area of 10,000 hectares that stretches up Pantaron Range as elders claim. However, according to approved comprehensive Lan Use Plan (CLUP) of the city, Barangay Kulaman’s official land area is only 3,150 hectares with an Alienable and Disposable land area of about 1,000 heactares.
Mission
In order to achieve this vision, we the people of Barangay Kulaman, guided by the active and responsible leaders, and in collaboration with private sector, seek to address all sectorial issues in education, health, nutrition, peace and order, youth and sports, infrastructure, economic and environment as well as administration and governance.
It is our desire and hope that we will be moving towards economically improved community and total human development.
Vision
Barangay Kulaman as one of the eco-tourism destination is upper Pulangui with productive healthy, educated and God-fearing people who lived in a peaceful and safe community, enjoying a self-reliant agricultural economy and balanced biodiversity, governed by committed and service-oriented leaders promoting justice and equality.
Historical Background
The name KULAMAN was derived from phrase “Hadi Ag Kaulaman”, a phrase used to describe the people dwelling in the village along crystal-clear river. The phrase means “cannot be lowly regarded”. This description was based on the villagers practice every time visitors come to their village. They make sure that the visitors won’t go home empty-handed. They will always give “sug-ot”, a give-away token to the visitors when they left the village. This gesture gives the impression to visitors and the neighboring tribes that the people of Kulaman are blessed because they can afford to give gifts. Another reason why the place and people were referred to as “Hadi Ag Kaulaman” as the elders have told, was traced when the time “Magahats” (head hunters) were still invading villages. For the reasons that could not explained, these head hunters could not infiltrate the villages of Kulaman. It seems that the place and people are protected by a supreme power.
Early settler of Kulaman was certain tribe headed by their leader Datu Mangawag. When Datu Mangawag died, he was succeeded by Datu Nanganudan and the Datu Manpundohan (means steady). Datu Manpundohan so loved the place especially the crystal-clear river. That he decide to create a small village which now the Barangay When DAtu Manpundohandied, he was succeeded by Datu Man-entende (Datu Salvador Timbangan). At the time kulaman was still a sition of Barangay Caburacanan.
ADatu Man-entende worked for the separation of Kulaman from Caburacanan. On April 25, 1972 through Provincial Board Resolution No. 72-277 and Municipal Ordinance No. 5 S-1972, Sitio Kulaman was officially created as a Barrio of the Municipality of Malaybalay.
