The City Health Office (CHO) organized a Newborn Screening Training for healthcare professionals, including doctors, nurses, medical technologists, midwives, and staff from various healthcare institutions. The training took place at the conference hall of the new city hall in Brgy Casisang, Malaybalay City, from December 14 to 15, 2023.

This initiative aims to reinforce the skills and knowledge of health practitioners involved in newborn screening (NBS) as part of the city’s strategies to reduce infant mortality rates caused by congenital disorders.

The training, attended by CHO staff and representatives from Bethel Baptist Hospital and Bukidnon Provincial Medical Center(BPMC), featured a series of activities designed to update participants on the latest technical knowledge in performing NBS.

The program included pre and post-tests to assess participants’ understanding, lecture/discussion sessions to share valuable insights, and practical exercises such as heel pricking at BPMC.
